Hazleton Fire Department | Protecting lives & property with pride since 1867
The Hazleton Fire Department has served the City of Hazleton for more than 150 years with dedication and professionalism. Established in 1867, the department remains committed to protecting residents and property through fire suppression, rescue operations, and public safety education. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Donald Leshko, the department includes 23 full-time firefighters and more than 200 volunteers working together to keep the city safe.
Comprehensive Fire & Rescue Services
The department operates from three fire stations across Hazleton: the South Side Fire Station on East Broad Street (the main headquarters), the Diamond Fire Station on North Church Street, and the 14th Ward Fire Station on East Diamond Avenue. These stations house a full fleet of emergency vehicles including ladders, pumpers, rescue units, utility vehicles and a foam trailer. Each location also works in coordination with local volunteer fire companies, ensuring rapid, efficient response to emergencies.
Community Preparedness & Public Safety
The Hazleton Fire Department goes beyond responding to emergencies. They lead regular fire safety education programs for schools, businesses and community groups. Through these initiatives, the department fosters awareness, readiness and prevention across the city. Their active community engagement builds trust while preparing residents to act safely in critical situations.
The Hazleton Fire Department continues to uphold its mission with integrity, readiness and a strong partnership between professionals and volunteers.
