Mission Statement
The Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District, a community-based nonprofit corporation founded in 1979, is committed to protecting, maintaining, and enhancing the water quality of Lake Wallenpaupack and its tributaries through leadership, public education and promotion of public awareness, scientific studies, and development and implementation of a comprehensive watershed management program, including the installation of watershed improvement projects.
The Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District protects the lake and surrounding waterways so residents and visitors can keep enjoying its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. They focus on stopping pollution at its source. Their projects help reduce pollution from farms, stormwater, soil erosion and chemical runoff.
The Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District improves water quality through three main steps. First, they research the lake and monitor water quality, which helps them pinpoint any issues and design a solution. Second, they educate the community about natural resources and ways they can help prevent pollution. Finally, they install best management practices, which reduce runoff, erosion, waste, and stormwater from entering the lake and its 219-acre watershed.
