Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District | Protecting clean water & recreation in the Poconos
The Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District works to preserve the environmental health of one of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most cherished lakes. By reducing pollution and protecting water quality, this nonprofit organization helps ensure that both residents and visitors can continue to enjoy Lake Wallenpaupack’s beauty and recreational opportunities for generations. Their work spans across the 219-acre watershed and supports vibrant ecosystems, safe drinking water and sustainable tourism.
Science-Backed Monitoring & Action
The District begins its work with research. They conduct regular water quality monitoring and scientific assessments that guide future projects. Their findings allow them to quickly identify pollution threats from sources such as stormwater runoff, agriculture and soil erosion. With accurate data in hand, they can implement effective solutions that keep the lake clean and safe.
Community Engagement & Pollution Prevention
Education is central to the District’s mission. They work directly with local residents, farmers and businesses to increase awareness of water quality issues and promote environmentally friendly practices. From school programs to public workshops, they empower the community to be stewards of the watershed.
Lasting Infrastructure & Ecosystem Protection
To reduce pollution at the source, the District installs best management practices like erosion controls, riparian buffers and stormwater systems. These projects help trap sediment, filter runoff and restore the natural balance of the lake and surrounding streams.
