Luzerne County Head Start, Inc. (LHCS) is an income-based early childhood education program that provides comprehensive services to pregnant women, children from birth to age five and their families in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties. LCHS began operations in 1965 and provided Head Start services to approximately 90 children and families. In 1999, LCHS began its Early Head Start program. Today, LCHS serves more than 1,100 children in their Head Start, Pre-K Counts and Early Head Start programs.

The program provides children in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties with a developmentally appropriate early childhood education and offers comprehensive health, nutrition and other family support services. Programs nationwide must follow a set of federally designated rules that ensure high-quality care and services.
