We’re teaming up with community partners all over Northeastern Pennsylvania to bring you a closer look at what makes our amazing counties, cities, towns and villages so unique. Keep your eye on this space for regular contributions from local organizations, visitors’ bureaus, tourism boards, chambers and so much more.

Bundle Up and Chill with Us in February!

A big chill is coming to Downtown Scranton in 2024, and we can’t wait!

Scranton Tomorrow will host Downtown on Ice, February 9 and 10, in the Downtown Scranton Business District. The event promises to be one of the coolest winter activities in Northeastern Pennsylvania as volunteers are planning an array of icy fun in keeping with an “Under the Big Top” circus theme. Ronda Beemer, board member, Scranton Tomorrow, and Tony Bartocci, president, Posture, are serving as event co-chairpersons.

Downtown on Ice will feature ice carving demonstrations with artists from Sculpted Ice Works, winter activities, a curling rink, scavenger hunt, live music, selfie stations, and seasonal cuisine and beverages at restaurants, cafés and pubs throughout the downtown. The family-friendly event is designed to encourage everyone to enjoy all the amenities Downtown Scranton has to offer and support local at a time of year when businesses really need a boost.

“Scranton is a wonderful place to live,” Beemer said. “Allowing Downtown to be the place where we can all come together is important. It creates memories for this generation, and we leave these memories with our kids. I love the idea of being part of an event that transforms the Downtown and gives us an opportunity to see the Downtown through a new lens. With so many activities, we’ll create energy that really benefits our local businesses. I’m committed to that, and I’m committed to whatever I can do to make the City of Scranton better. To me, that’s an incredible honor.”

The 2024 festival will be a reboot of the popular event members of the community enjoyed in 2021 and 2022 called the Scranton Ice Festival. Earlier this year, the festival’s founders announced the event would no longer continue. Realizing what a wonderful asset it was to the community and local businesses, Scranton Tomorrow leaders offered to host it. “Experiencing this magical event first-hand during the pandemic, I’m excited to now build on the success the Nasser Family started and help reimagine the experience with the Scranton Tomorrow team,” Bartocci said. “We have a solid committee of business leaders who are determined to bring a true spectacle to the downtown that will benefit our entire business district.”
