Departing from Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton at 9:00 AM, this all-day rail trip offers breathtaking views, rich history, and a chance to explore one of Pennsylvania’s most scenic destinations.
The train ride to Delaware Water Gap lasts about three hours, tracing the Lackawanna Valley and Poconos. Arriving at noon, passengers may disembark to explore the historic village, enjoy food and local vendors, or remain onboard for an extended ride to Slateford Junction. A return departure at 3:00 PM brings the train back to Steamtown by 6:00 PM.
Dating back to 1856, the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railway line carved a route through rugged mountains and streams to connect Scranton with New York. The Delaware Water Gap Station, built in 1903–1904 by architect Frank J. Nies, remains a landmark of late Victorian railway design. Though no longer in service, the station and its surroundings are steeped in history and charm.
Limited amenities are available at the station, but grilled food and cold drinks will be for sale. Shuttle buses will also transport visitors into town, where local shops and restaurants await.
