First Day Hike takes place at Lackawanna State Park in North Abington Township on Thursday, January 1, 2026, with guided hikes offered at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. This annual outing is a great way to welcome 2026 outdoors with two options designed for different comfort levels and trail conditions.
The 9:00 AM hike follows the Snowflake and Frost Hollow trails on an approximately 2-mile loop over moderate terrain, including rocks and roots, possible snow and ice, and some uphill climbs along the southern portion of the park.
The 1:00 PM hike offers a gentler route on the paved paths in the Day Use Area, covering an approximately 1-mile loop on flat terrain, though winter conditions may still include snow and ice.
Participants are encouraged to dress in layers, wear appropriate footwear, and bring drinking water and snacks.
