JoAnn Pilston: Slab-Build a Mug | Hazleton Art League, Hazleton
Tuesday, January 13, 2026 | 6:00–8:00 PM
JoAnn Pilston: Slab-Build a Mug at the Hazleton Art League in Hazleton takes place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and invites adults 18 and older to create a custom handmade mug. This popular class from Jo Pilston Pottery uses rich, chocolate-colored hazelnut clay to build one-of-a-kind drinkware—though it looks good enough to eat, the clay stays strictly non-edible.
Participants will learn how to handbuild a mug starting from a simple clay slab, with no pottery wheel required. The workshop is beginner-friendly, but experienced clay enthusiasts will also find plenty of room to experiment and refine their style.
A wide variety of textures, stamps, and glaze color options will be available so each mug can reflect the maker’s personality, whether the final piece says “elegant heirloom” or “I just need more coffee.” Finished mugs will be fired and glazed after class and will be ready for pickup at a later date.
This class is open to adults ages 18 and up. Member cost is $70 and nonmember cost is $80; both prices include a $42 materials fee that covers clay, tools, and firing.
Nonmember Cost: $80 (includes $42 material fee)
