Joni Mazzie: Throwdown w/ Joni Mazzie (Afternoons) at the Hazleton Art League in Hazleton runs on Wednesdays from January 21 through March 11, 2026, from 12:30 to 3:00 PM and introduces adults and teens 16+ to the fundamentals of pottery on the wheel. This multi-week afternoon class is ideal for anyone who has ever wanted to learn how to throw clay and make their own ceramic pieces.
Under the guidance of instructor Joni Mazzie, participants will learn how to center clay, shape forms on the potter’s wheel, and trim pieces for a clean, finished look. Students will also glaze their work, creating keepsake ceramics they can proudly use or display at home.
The environment is relaxed, encouraging students to experiment, get messy, and enjoy the process while building confidence and skills week by week. Beginners are welcome, and those with prior experience can continue to refine technique and explore new forms.
The class is open to adults and teens ages 16 and older. Member cost is $265 and nonmember cost is $290; both prices include a $40 materials fee that covers clay, glazes, and firing.
