Joni Mazzie: Throwdown w/ Joni Mazzie at the Hazleton Art League in Hazleton runs every Tuesday from January 20 through March 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM and introduces adults and teens 16+ to the fundamentals of pottery on the wheel. This multi-week class is ideal for anyone who has ever wanted to try throwing clay and create their own functional ceramics.
Under the guidance of instructor Joni Mazzie, participants learn how to center clay, shape forms on the potter’s wheel, and trim pieces for a polished finish. Students will also have the chance to glaze their work, producing keepsake ceramics they can proudly use or display at home.
The atmosphere is relaxed and hands-on, so beginners can feel comfortable getting messy and experimenting, while those with prior experience can refine technique and explore new forms. By the end of the session, students will have created multiple pieces and gained confidence working with clay from start to finish.
The class is open to adults and teens ages 16 and older. Member cost is $265 and nonmember cost is $290; both prices include a $40 materials fee that covers clay, glazes, and firing.
