The Raising Backyard Chickens workshop will take place at Salt Springs State Park in Montrose on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:00 AM. This informative program introduces participants to the basics of starting and caring for a backyard flock.
The workshop will be led by Allison, a homesteading and homeschooling mother who has spent seven years raising and breeding backyard flocks and meat birds with her family. She will share practical knowledge and firsthand experience to help beginners feel confident starting their own chicken-raising journey.
Participants will learn about getting started with initial investments, daily care routines, predator protection strategies, manure management and maintaining the health and well-being of chickens. The session will also explore the realities of “chicken math,” a humorous term often used by poultry keepers when flocks quickly grow.
The participation fee is $5.00, and the program is free for members.
