Step inside one of the Poconos’ most infamous haunted locations at The Haunted at The Candle Shoppe of the Poconos in Swiftwater, PA. Open Thursday through Monday, this guided history tour explores both the eerie legends and remarkable history of the building, once featured on Animal Planet’s The Haunted.
The Candle Shoppe, built in 1897, was originally the home and laboratory of Dr. William Redwood Fisher. In the basement, Dr. Fisher conducted biological research on primates that contributed to the development of vaccines for smallpox and yellow fever. Today, visitors can see the original monkey cages, vintage medical equipment, and historic documents that remain in the building.
But history isn’t the only thing that lingers here. Guests have reported unexplained phenomena, from brushes against their ankles and hair being tugged to chilling screams echoing from the property. Many even claim to have captured images of ghostly figures, including the doctor himself.
Guided history tours are $25 per person. Tour hours vary by season and on holidays, so guests are encouraged to call ahead for updated schedules.
