Jazzing Up Wilkes-Barre: A Night at the Cavalcade of Jazz Festival
The night was young, the air was crisp and the cool sounds of jazz echoed throughout the streets of Wilkes-Barre. For the first time in nearly 13 years, the city became a hub for complex chord progressions and syncopated rhythms as it celebrated the Cavalcade of Jazz.
Our night started with a free chandelier concert at the F.M. Kirby Center by Joe Michaels Trio. The band played to a nearly packed room and served as the kickoff performance to the festival. We continued making our way to participating venues around Public Square, immersing ourselves in various styles of jazz. The exceptional talent and masterful musicianship was not only impressive but made it challenging to tear ourselves away from each performance but unsurprisingly, we enjoyed every stop along the way.
The Cavalcade of Jazz will continue throughout the weekend and includes a special performance by 10-time Grammy winner, Arturo Sandoval today at the Kirby Center. For more information including the schedule of events, click here.
