Your Guide to Summer Shows at the F.M. Kirby Center
This summer, the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts is giving Northeastern Pennsylvania more free-and-low-price ways to beat the heat than ever before.
We’ve scheduled a massive lineup of must-see films showing through July and August, including our first-ever Big Screen Summer Series! This collection of kids films is free for children 12 and under, while anyone 13 and over can attend for only $5.
In addition to movies, our summer calendar includes all the high-quality music and comedy you expect from the F.M. Kirby Center. Read on to find out what’s coming to the Kirby.
Tuesdays in July and August
Movies screen at 1 p.m. and are free for children 12 and under. Tickets are just $5 for ages 13 and up. Timeless children’s films take center stage for our inaugural Big Screen Summer Series! This new selection of movies is meant to be a fun field trip for local camps and a cheap outing for families in our area.
Children without valid ID must be accompanied by an adult. If you’d like to bring a group, please contact our box office at 570-826-1100.

Named in honor of former F.M. Kirby Center Executive Director and ardent film series supporter W. Curtis Montz, this celebration of independent, foreign, and documentary filmmaking makes its return to the F.M. Kirby Center!
During the W. Curtis Montz Film Series, you can discover your new favorite niche film or dive into an engrossing doc from the comfort of our Art Deco auditorium.
The series includes:

- July 30 – Science fiction/romance – Love Me [R]
- August 6 – Music documentary – Stop Making Sense [PG]
- August 13 – Music documentary – Little Richard: I Am Everything [NR]

The upcoming entries in our Classic Film Series will transport viewers to a galaxy far, far away and… wherever Oz is. Don’t miss your chance to see some of the most celebrated motion pictures ever created and enjoy some of the best popcorn you’ll ever have!

Wednesday, September 10 at 7 p.m.
Initially released in September 2004, Ray Lamontagne’s debut album “Trouble” went on to sell over a million copies in the United States alone. Back then, songs from the album could be heard soundtracking everything from television shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Rescue Me” to feature film “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Now, Lamontagne is hitting the road to celebrate one of his most beloved works with fans across the country, including a September stop at the F.M. Kirby Center! Be here when Lamontagne performs “Trouble” in its entirety, as well as other hits from his catalog. Canadian folk band The Weather Station will also perform live.

Friday, September 12 at 8 p.m.
If laughter is the best medicine, Nurse Blake is bringing the ultimate cure-all to the F.M. Kirby Center.
During the But Did You Die? Comedy Tour, Nurse Blake will perform a new show full of hilarious references and commentary that’ll have healthcare professionals feeling seen. It’s the perfect outing for friends and coworkers and the perfect gift for healthcare professionals in your life.
Blake Lynch built his huge online following through lighthearted, relatable takes on the often-stressful job of nursing. Now, he tours as a comedian bringing fellow nurses together for events that celebrate their profession. You don’t have to be a nurse to enjoy the show, though. Nurse Blake’s comedic talents make the show a hilarious good time no matter what your day job is!

Celtic Thunder is an Irish music institution. The group has amassed a legion of fans over nearly 20 years of live performances, and it’s built an impressive roster of former members during that time, too. Some of those familiar faces will join current Celtic Thunder members on stage during a show that promises to be a reunion with old friends.
This evening with Celtic Thunder celebrates some of the group’s greatest songs. Don’t miss out if you’re a fan of the band, Irish music or Celtic culture!

Saturday, September 20 at 7 p.m.
The comedy of Dusty Slay channels blue collar America. During his sets, Slay tells laugh-out-loud stories with a signature Southern twang that invites listeners to indulge in his observational style.
Slay’s January 2024 Netflix special “Workin’ Man” is a critically acclaimed example of his stand-up routine, and if that piques an interest, be sure to check out his brand-new Netflix special, “Wet Heat,” set to premiere on July 29. Once you’re sold on Slay’s unique comedic style (and you will be), grab tickets to his September 20 show at the F.M. Kirby Center!

Monday, September 22 at 8 p.m.
Steve Winwood is responsible for some of the most recognizable songs in pop culture today. His hits, like “Valerie,” “Gimmie Some Loving,” and “Higher Love,” can be found across a diverse collection of films and television shows—a testament to Winwood’s penchant for transforming universal emotions into irresistibly catchy music.
The best part? His prolific solo work is just one facet of his career. Winwood has built a monster resume as a session musician, working with everyone from The Jimi Hendrix Experience and George Harrison to Slash and Miranda Lambert. He’s also created music as a member of rock bands Traffic, Blind Faith, and the Spencer Davis Group.

The kids of CoComelon are going on a field trip, and your family is invited!
