Explore Nature in Schuylkill County

The Bear Creek Environmental Area & Dr. James S. Shadle Nature Center are located at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds, right in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The environmental area offers two miles of interpretive trails that showcase the area’s different habitats.

The Dr. James S. Shadle Nature Center features exhibits about local wildlife, geology, and natural history. The nature center is open to the public during fair week and by appointment during other times of the year. The Schuylkill County Conservation District also hosts educational programs onsite.
