Little Rocky Glen Preserve: A Hidden Gorge with Big Views

Tucked between Tunkhannock and Factoryville, Little Rocky Glen Preserve is a natural gem in Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains. Spanning 26 rugged acres, this Countryside Conservancy property offers a dramatic landscape of towering rock walls, cascading water, and peaceful woodland trails—perfect for a quick escape into nature.

A Gorge Worth the Trip

Little Rocky Glen Preserve’s signature feature is its plunging gorge, where cliffs rise more than 100 feet above the winding Tunkhannock Creek. Along the ledges, you’ll find breathtaking views of the creek’s rapids, waterfalls, and ancient natural potholes carved by centuries of rushing water. The sound of roaring falls and rushing currents echoes through the glen, creating a truly immersive outdoor experience.

Short Hike, Big Reward

Little Rocky Glen is ideal for those looking for a short hike with a view. The trails are manageable for most hikers and guide you along the rim of the gorge, through peaceful meadows, and down to the water’s edge. In the fall, this trail becomes a favorite for NEPA fall hikes, as the surrounding woodlands light up with brilliant fall foliage.

Peaceful Picnic Spot by the Creek

At the base of the gorge, the creek widens and slows into crystal-clear pools, offering a serene spot to relax. A covered picnic pavilion beside the water provides a shady place to rest, eat, or just listen to the sounds of nature. While swimming is not allowed, the cool breeze off the creek and shady surroundings make it a refreshing stop.

How to Get There

Little Rocky Glen Preserve is located on Lithia Valley Road, just off Route 6, between Tunkhannock and Factoryville. A small parking area is available near the concrete bridge. The preserve is open to the public from April through November, making it a perfect spot for spring walks, summer hikes, and especially leaf-peeping in the fall.

A Must-Visit for Nature Lovers

Whether you’re after a quick stroll, a peaceful picnic, or a place to take in some of the region’s natural beauty, Little Rocky Glen Preserve delivers. It’s one of those NEPA outdoor activities that feels miles away from it all—without going far at all.
