Martins Creek Viaduct: A Historic Marvel in the Endless Mountains

Rising above the rolling hills of Susquehanna County, the Martins Creek Viaduct—sometimes known as the Kingsley Bridge—is one of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most striking historic landmarks. Built between 1912 and 1914 by the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, this awe-inspiring concrete structure stands 150 feet tall and stretches over 1,600 feet across the landscape. It was a remarkable engineering feat of its time and remains a powerful symbol of NEPA’s rich railroad and industrial heritage.

A Scenic Viewpoint Worth the Trip

For decades, the bridge was admired mostly by locals from informal roadside spots. In 2022, the Martins Creek Viaduct Scenic Overlook opened to the public, finally giving visitors a safe and accessible place to take in its full grandeur. Located off Zicks Hill Road near Kingsley, the overlook includes gravel parking and an interpretive sign with historical background on the structure and its significance.

Visiting the Viaduct

The overlook offers sweeping views of the viaduct as it spans across the valley, making it an ideal stop for history buffs, photographers, and lovers of scenic drives. The peaceful surroundings of the Endless Mountains add to the experience, highlighting the contrast between natural beauty and early 20th-century engineering.
