Moon Lake Recreation Area in Luzerne County invites outdoor lovers to experience nature across all four seasons. This scenic destination, located within the Pinchot State Forest, features a spring-fed, 48-acre lake surrounded by dense woodlands, peaceful trails, and wildlife habitats.

Explore the Water by Kayak or Canoe

Visitors enjoy calm waters perfect for paddling and shoreline fishing. The lake, stocked with trout, attracts anglers throughout the year. A designated boat launch makes it easy to explore by kayak or canoe. Because only non-motorized and electric-powered watercraft are permitted, the lake remains quiet and relaxing for everyone.

Hit the Trails in Any Season

With nearly 20 miles of well-maintained trails, Moon Lake offers a wide range of outdoor activities. Hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners explore the trails in warmer months. In winter, snowshoers and cold-weather trekkers take advantage of the same paths. Deer, foxes, turkeys, and birds often appear along the way, so be sure to bring your camera or binoculars. Moon Lake features over 20 miles of singletrack mountain biking trails—from flowy beginner routes to technical rock gardens—and offers hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and camping across 12 designated sites and group areas

Stay Overnight or Plan a Group Outing

For longer visits, campers can choose from 12 designated sites or arrange group camping through the Pinchot Forest District. Three covered pavilions provide ideal spots for picnics or gatherings.

Get Involved with Trail Care

The Moon Lake Trail Crew works closely with the Pinchot Forest District to maintain and expand the trail system. They regularly post updates, event details, and volunteer opportunities on Facebook, so it’s easy to stay connected and contribute.
