Nothstein Preserve | Woodlands & waterfalls in Cresco

Nothstein Preserve in Cresco, PA is a nature preserve and hiking trail system managed by Paradise Township. Covering approximately 150 acres, the preserve protects forested ravines, coldwater streams, and a scenic gorge carved by Cranberry Creek.

The landscape feels remote and immersive, shaped by steep terrain and dense woodland. Visitors will encounter rocky paths, shaded valleys, and flowing water throughout the preserve. The area plays an important role in protecting the Brodhead watershed and supporting native brook trout habitat.

Trail system & accessibility

The preserve features roughly 3.4 miles of single-track hiking trails arranged into four loop options. These routes offer challenging conditions, including steep climbs, uneven footing, and rustic creek crossings. Trail blazes and mapped routes help hikers navigate the system. Water levels in Cranberry Creek can affect trail access due to limited bridge crossings.

A 0.4-mile ADA-accessible path near the trailhead provides a quieter option through the woods. This route offers a more relaxed experience without significant elevation change.
