Appalachian Trail Conservancy
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) is the nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, managing and advocating for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Since 1925, ATC has led a unique public–private partnership that supports the Appalachian Trail, the world’s longest hiking-only footpath, stretching more than 2,190 miles from Georgia to Maine.
Working with the National Park Service, state agencies and local trail-maintaining clubs, ATC helps preserve the Trail’s treadway, surrounding landscapes and visitor experience. The organization also provides essential planning resources for hikers, including an interactive map, safety guidance and trip-planning tools—especially valuable for navigating Pennsylvania’s rugged and rocky sections of the Trail.
Through conservation, education and volunteer stewardship, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy helps ensure the A.T. remains protected, accessible and resilient for future generations of hikers.
