Set in the Endless Mountains of Susquehanna County, Elk Mountain ski resort in Union Dale delivers a big-mountain ski experience in Northeastern PA. Spanning 180 skiable acres with 27 trails, the resort is known for its challenging terrain, long sustained runs and consistently excellent snow conditions. With nearly 1,000 feet of vertical drop, a dedicated terrain park and meticulously groomed slopes, Elk Mountain attracts skiers and snowboarders looking for something a little steeper and a lot quicker.

Founded in 1959, Elk Mountain is one of Pennsylvania’s oldest commercial ski areas and has built a loyal following for its commitment to snowmaking, trail design and overall mountain experience. Thanks to colder temperatures and full snowmaking coverage, conditions often rival larger resorts, earning Elk a reputation as one of the best overall ski mountains in the Mid-Atlantic.

Ski and Snowboard at Elk Mountain

Elk Mountain has a reputation for offering some of the most exciting skiing in Pennsylvania, especially for visitors who are ready to move beyond the bunny slopes. Many of the trails are longer and steeper than what you’ll find at smaller resorts, giving the mountain a big-ski-resort feel. There are also plenty of easier runs where beginners can slow things down, take their time and build confidence.

With 27 trails ranging from green to black diamond, riders can choose everything from smoother cruisers to steeper, technical runs like Tunkhannock, Susquehanna and Wyalusing. The mountain’s layout naturally spreads skiers across its slopes, creating a less congested feel even on busy weekends.

Elk’s lift setup helps keep the mountain moving, so you spend less time standing around and more time on the slopes. Paired with careful grooming and reliable snowmaking, the mountain is known for offering consistently good conditions from early season through spring.

Lift tickets are available for full-day, half-day and night skiing, giving visitors flexibility whether they’re planning a full day on the mountain or a shorter trip. Elk Mountain also offers season passes and multi-day options for frequent visitors who want to make the most of the winter season.
