The Luzerne County Rail Trail stretches 1.8 miles from Port Griffith to Riverfront Park in Pittston. The trail is mostly paved or covered in crushed stone. The smooth surface and gentle grade make it perfect for a walk, run, or bike ride.
There’s plenty to see along the Luzerne County Rail Trail. It boasts incredible views of the Susquehanna River and towering rock ledges. The trail also borders an active railroad, so you never know when you might spot a train chugging into town. Keep your eyes peeled for historical sites like the Knox Mine Disaster Memorial at mile marker 0.4.
Trail access is available at Riverfront Park near the Fort Jenkins Bridge. Meter parking is available on Cron Street. Another trailhead is located in Port Griffith, right off of River Road. If you’re heading north from Wilkes-Barre, take the first left after the 8th Street Bridge. A parking area is located behind a small residential area.
