Make the Most of Those Not-So-Sunny Days

It’s no secret that NEPA has some of the best year-round, outdoor amenities. Our snowy winters are ideal for skiing and snowboarding. Spring and fall are all about those long, colorful hikes in the woods. And when it comes to summer, well… the possibilities are nearly endless. It’s a big part of why so many love to call Northeastern Pennsylvania home.

And then, of course, it rains or snows. Eventually, we’re faced with that unplanned snow day or one of those long, rain-drenched summer days. NEPA’s got tons of awesome, indoor amenities that are suited perfectly for these bad-weather days. From indoor sport and recreation centers to trampoline parks, arcades, gyms and so much more, we’ve got everything you need to turn those rainy/snowy day frowns upside down.

Celebrate the Snow and Rain with a Little Retro Fun

Stop by one of these local bowling centers or roller skating rinks and start a new snow day tradition. Slip on those shiny shoes, pick out that perfect ball and aim for anything but the gutter. Or lace up those trusty skates and cruise the polished rink floor. And when the kids are done kicking your butt, treat them to a classic bowling/roller skating meal of pizza, fries and a coke.

Keep Those Brain Muscles in Tip-Top Shape

It’s time to see if all that homework actually pays off. You’ll have your wits tested like never before at one of NEPA’s popular escape rooms. See if you can solve the mysterious riddles and find the hidden clues to beat the clock and get out. Just don’t forget – teamwork makes the dream work.

Get Lost in a Local Library or Museum for a Day

There’s still plenty to explore, even when you have to move the fun inside. NEPA’s incredible museums and educational destinations make learning a blast. The same goes for our local libraries. Discover great new books, explore your family tree or sign up for a craft class. They’re free, or at least very affordable, and they are specifically designed with children in mind.

Any Day is a Good Day for Popcorn

Enjoy the tranquility of a dark theater and the warmth of a fresh bucket of buttery popcorn in your lap. For nearly two hours, the kids will be happy and content while you contemplate whether or not you defrosted the roast for dinner… oh, who cares? Pick up a pizza on the way home.

Let their Creativity Run Wild

Even if you’re holed up inside, creativity can take you on a journey full of endless possibilities. Take the kids to an art center or pottery painting studio to make their own mini masterpieces (and the best part is, you don’t have the clean up the mess).
