Main Hardware’s Christmasland: A Timeless Tradition
Step through the doors of Main Hardware on South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre this season, and you’ll be greeted by the familiar charm of a hometown shop and the unmistakable spirit of Christmas. Upstairs, the second floor has once again transformed into a holiday wonderland known throughout the region as Christmasland.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of this beloved local tradition. For five decades, families have made their annual visit up those well-worn stairs to experience a bit of magic. With 12 rooms of glittering décor and festive charm, it’s easy to see why so many return year after year.
Shelves overflow with ornaments, garlands, and strings of twinkling lights. Displays of tinsel and bayberry candles add a cozy, nostalgic charm. Around every corner, there’s something new to discover. Vintage blow molds, timeless Santa figurines, and walls lined with decorations bring Christmas past to life.
What makes Christmasland so special isn’t just the sheer variety — though they truly have anything and everything you could possibly need to deck your halls — it’s the sense of warmth and tradition that fills the space. Generations have wandered these rooms together, passing along stories, pointing out old favorites, and picking up new treasures to carry home.
Half a century later, Christmasland remains as enchanting as ever — a twinkling reminder of community, memory, and the simple joy of the holiday season.
