Catch the Last Flicks of the Season in Dickson City
For 75 seasons, the Circle Drive-In has been a beloved community hub in NEPA. Established in 1949, this iconic open air theater has stood the test of time. Adapting to changing movie trends and providing entertainment for all ages, this hotspot gives families the chance to experience films in a truly nostalgic setting. This fall, Circle Drive-In kicks off a celebration, not only for its 75th drive-in season but also for the 50th anniversary of the famous Giant Flea Fair.
From Small Beginnings to a Regional Landmark
The entrepreneur and owner of the old Maple Drive-In in Honesdale, Mike Delfino, saw an opportunity to transform a lot in Dickson City into a drive-in theater. Alongside his wife, a dedicated teacher, Delfino persevered and built what would become a regional treasure. The general manager Dave Castelli has been overseeing daily operations for the last 18 years. “When Mike went to the bank to get a loan for the land, the bank told him to come back when he grew up and had a different business idea. But that didn’t stop him from turning his dreams into a reality. They bought the land, opened the drive-in and slowly made improvements.”
Adaptability has been key to the Circle Drive-In’s success. “One thing I learned from Mike is that you have to keep changing with the times if you want to survive,” Castelli added. This forward-thinking mindset led to the addition of a second screen, state-of-the-art fiber optics, and a variety of annual festivals that have kept the drive-in relevant in a changing industry.
The drive-in’s connection to the community has always been at the heart of its success. Castelli said, “Mike was deeply involved in local charitable work. And this tradition continues with his nephew Joe Calibro, who inherited the drive-in after Mike’s passing at age 98 in 2020.” As a pillar of local entertainment, the Circle Drive-In keeps it connection to the people of NEPA strong by regularly hosting community event and fundraisers.

A Taste of the 1950s at the Concession Stand
No visit to the Circle Drive-In would be complete without a stop at the concession stand. Open during every movie and special event, stepping into the concession stand is like taking a trip back to the 1950s. With its old-school décor and self-serve system, it exudes vintage charm. The nostalgic ambiance pairs perfectly with the scent of buttery popcorn filling the air. They offer classic snacks like soft pretzels and hot dogs, as well as more substantial items like hamburgers and fried pierogies. Every item on their menu is sold at refreshingly retro prices. Plus, here is where you can borrow a cordless car radio for the perfect audio experience during the movie.
Spooky Nights Await at The Annual Haunted Experience
In addition to movies, Circle Drive-In hosts the Circle of Screams haunted attraction every October. It’s open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the month, offering spooky thrills for those who dare venture into the woods surrounding the movie screens. First, step into the horrors of Delfino Manor, a seemingly abandoned house hidden in the woods. Then, venture into the twisted world of Twizted Tales, where childhood fables take a terrifying turn. More details and tickets can be found on Circle Drive-In website.
The Giant Flea Fair’s 50th Anniversary Season
If you are looking for something to do on Sundays, Circle Drive-In’s famous Giant Flea Fair will continue into mid-November, with a special Pop-Up Flea Fair on Saturday, October 12. Vendors sell a variety of items such as fresh produce, antiques and collectibles, new and slightly used apparel, jewelry, and much more. The grounds are flooded with people from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. looking to shop, thrift, and find those hidden gems during Sunday flea markets.
Special Events Boost the Community Morale
The Circle Drive-In isn’t just a place to watch movies—it’s a hub for community gatherings and special events that bring people together. The 5th Annual NEPA Strong Ultimate Trunk or Treat & Halloween Marketplace will take place on Saturday, October 19th, from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Families can enjoy a safe, fun environment for kids to trick-or-treat, along with a Halloween-themed marketplace for all ages.
