Clifford Township Historical Society | Living History & Community Spirit in Clifford, PA

The Clifford Township Historical Society (CTHS) in Clifford, PA is more than a museum—it’s a vibrant, community-driven effort to keep local history alive. Founded in 2005 during the township’s bicentennial celebration, this nonprofit organization has grown through grassroots dedication and generous community support. CTHS collects, preserves, and shares the stories, photographs, artifacts, and traditions that shaped Clifford and its surrounding areas, inspiring future generations to connect with the past in hands-on, meaningful ways.

Education, Engagement & Enjoyment for All Ages

What began as a small local initiative has flourished into a legacy of preservation through a series of impressive community projects. The Hoover One-Room School has been fully restored, offering a glimpse into 19th-century education. The Museum of Local History presents treasured objects and stories that reflect the township’s evolution. And the Agricultural Museum celebrates Clifford’s rural roots through vintage farming tools and equipment.

The centerpiece of the Society’s efforts, Yarns Cider Mill, is a completely rebuilt structure that now presses apples during seasonal events using its original 1894 Boomer & Boschert Screw Press. Adding a family-friendly element, the Clifford Children’s Garden beside the Community Park offers a one-acre enclosed space where children can play, learn, and discover themed areas with educational signage that cleverly blends fun with local history.

Whether visitors are pressing cider in the fall, exploring exhibits, or watching children learn through play in the garden, the Clifford Township Historical Society proves that history doesn’t belong in a dusty book. Through educational programs, special events, and hands-on experiences, CTHS keeps Clifford’s past alive while inspiring pride and curiosity in the present.

The Clifford Township Historical Society is a dynamic and welcoming celebration of heritage that continues to shape the future of the Endless Mountains.
