Yarns Cider Mill | Preserving History & Pressing Tradition in Clifford Township
Yarns Cider Mill at Suraci Farm in Clifford Township celebrates heritage, community, and the spirit of preservation. The Clifford Township Historical Society operates the mill, which has been carefully restored after more than a decade of volunteer effort, donations, and local dedication. Located at 2520 State Route 2014, this historic site serves as both a cultural landmark and a living tribute to the township’s agricultural and industrial roots.
Restoring a Community Landmark
The cider mill originally ran on an 1894 Boomer and Boschert screw press, making it a vital part of rural life. In 2012, a 100-year lease marked the beginning of its restoration. Volunteers worked steadily, supported by grants from the Endless Mountains Heritage Region and contributions from Perry Yarns’ great-great-grandson. Their efforts gained momentum in October 2023 when the Bilotta Family Irrevocable Personal Residence Trust transferred the mill and two acres of land to the Historical Society for one symbolic dollar.
Tradition Brought Back to Life
Now fully restored, the structure and its historic press are ready to welcome a new generation of visitors. The Clifford Township Historical Society plans to host apple pressing events, starting with “The Big Squeeze.” These gatherings will reconnect the community with its past while sharing the timeless tradition of cider making.
