Summer Kickoff Paddle takes place along the Susquehanna River North Branch in Susquehanna County on Sunday, June 14, 2026, beginning with check-in by 9:00 AM at the Phantom Fireworks of Great Bend shopping plaza (25059 US-11, Hallstead, PA 18822). Hosted by Endless Mountains Heritage Region in partnership with Susquehanna Kayak & Canoe Rentals and Endless Mountain Outfitters, this 12-mile paddle marks the first day trip of the season.
Participants will be shuttled to the Oakland Township PA Fish & Boat Commission launch before heading downstream through the scenic “Great Bend” stretch of the river, including the site of the former Oakland Hydroelectric Dam removed in 2023. A lunch stop is included during the trip.
This year’s paddle benefits the Susquehanna County Conservation District, which will provide educational programming during lunch at the Great Bend PA Fish & Boat Launch. The registration fee includes lunch from Red Rock BBQ, insurance, shuttling, educational programming, and a donation to SCCD.
Cost is $60 for participants bringing their own kayak or canoe. Rentals are available for $50 for a single kayak or $70 for a tandem kayak or canoe. Participants should bring appropriate clothing and footwear, sunscreen, water, snacks, and a dry bag for personal items. Space is limited; registration is requested by Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
