Mission Statement

Lackawanna County CASA advocates for abused and/or neglected children; give them hope, support and encouragement; enhance their resiliency; and ensure that their voices are heard as the juvenile court system seeks safe, permanent, and nurturing homes.

Lackawanna County CASA | Advocacy & Stability for Children in Crisis in Scranton

Lackawanna County CASA, based in Scranton, PA, is a nonprofit organization made up of dedicated and professionally trained adult volunteers who serve as advocates for children navigating the foster care and child welfare system. CASA—Court Appointed Special Advocates—stand by children who have experienced abuse or neglect, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are prioritized as they move through complex legal and social service processes. These volunteers remain with a child’s case until they are placed in a safe, stable, and permanent home.

Trained Volunteers Creating Lifelong Impact

CASA volunteers are often the one consistent, trusted adult in a child’s life—someone they can depend on during one of the most difficult times they’ll ever face. Each volunteer undergoes extensive training to effectively support the child’s well-being and advocate for their best interests in court and throughout their care journey. Research shows that when a child has a CASA volunteer, they are significantly less likely to linger in the system and more likely to be placed in a safe, loving home.

A Voice for the Vulnerable

Lackawanna County CASA operates with the belief that every child deserves to grow up in a supportive, permanent environment. Volunteers work directly with families, caseworkers, and judges to provide critical insight into a child’s unique circumstances. Their involvement often makes the difference between instability and lifelong security.

Lackawanna County CASA helps children in foster care find the safety, consistency, and advocacy they deserve through trusted volunteer support in Scranton.
