The mission of the Lackawanna Historical Society is to collect, preserve and interpret the artifacts, archives and bibliographic materials of the social, cultural and economic history of Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The Lackawanna Historical Society, a nonprofit organization founded in 1886 and headquartered in Scranton, PA, is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Lackawanna County. With a mission to preserve, interpret, and share the region’s rich history, the Society offers a variety of resources to the public, including a museum, research library, rotating exhibits, guided tours, and engaging programs for all ages. A Historic Home for Local History
The Society is located at the Catlin House, a Tudor Revival mansion built in 1912, which serves as both its headquarters and museum. This stately residence provides the perfect backdrop for exploring regional stories of industry, immigration, innovation, and everyday life. Through exhibits and special events hosted within this architectural gem, the organization brings local history to life in an intimate and engaging setting.
