Mission Statement
The mission of the LHS is to collect, preserve and interpret the artifacts, archives and bibliographic materials of the social, cultural and economic history of Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1886, the Lackawanna Historical Society is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Lackawanna County. This organization preserves local history and shares it with the public through their museum, research library, exhibits, programs and more. Items in their collections date from the 1700s to the present.
The Lackawanna Historical Society is headquartered in the historic Catlin House, a stately Tudor Revival mansion built in 1912. They also host tours and educational programs throughout the area.
With the support of members, the community, the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, Lackawanna County and other funders, the organization is able to continue their mission and capture the area’s rich historical resources.
