The Northeast PA Area Health Education Center (NEPA AHEC) is a nonprofit organization committed to improving access to primary healthcare and enhancing the overall quality of health across Northeastern Pennsylvania. With a special focus on rural and medically underserved populations, NEPA AHEC provides free and low-cost health education programs that empower individuals, support healthcare workforce development & strengthen community wellness.
Community Health Programs That Make a Difference
Northeast PA Area Health Education Center offers a range of accessible and impactful programs designed to address key public health concerns in the region. Their Freedom from Smoking program, offered free of charge in Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne and Pike Counties, helps individuals quit smoking through a supportive, evidence-based approach. They also offer a free Diabetes Prevention Program in Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Pike and Monroe Counties, aimed at reducing risk and improving lifestyle outcomes through education and behavior change.
Workforce Development From High School Through Career
Northeast PAArea Health Education Center plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. They offer accredited Community Health Worker training as well as career exploration, clinical exposure, and didactic instruction for students from high school through college. By guiding students through hands-on experiences and connecting them to real-world opportunities, the organization helps build a skilled, compassionate healthcare workforce ready to serve the needs of the region.
