Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Riverfront Parks Committee to improve the quality of life in the region through the rehabilitation, enhancement and preservation of three historic and natural parklands along the Susquehanna River: River Common, Kirby Park Natural Area and Nesbitt Park. We encourage environmental awareness and stewardship through the development of educational programs, and offer the region a safe, clean and unique natural setting for year-round recreation.
Riverfront Parks Committee manages River Common, Kirby Park and Nesbitt Park in Wilkes-Barre. This group of citizens, local business leaders and city government officials works to reunite people with the Susquehanna River. They ensure that the downtown area has easy access to green spaces.
The parks provide opportunities for people to walk, run, bike, fish and boat year-round. Riverfront Parks committee also holds recreational and educational events such as wildlife programs, environmental lectures, outdoor concerts and yoga programs. Some of their signature events include the annual Riverfest, Dragon Boat Races and Chalkfest.
