Mission Statement
We, the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, Pennsylvania, vowed women in an apostolic religious congregation of pontifical right, rejoice in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ and commit ourselves to share in his redeeming mission. We reclaim and confirm the core values that impel and permeate our participation in that mission: Rootedness in God, Community, Justice, Respect for Diversity and Wholeness

The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Sisters of IHM), are a community of over 220 Catholic women religious based in Scranton, PA, devoted to carrying out the mission of Jesus through education, service, and advocacy. Since their founding in 1845, the Sisters of IHM have lived and shared the message of God’s unconditional love, reaching individuals and communities across the United States and Latin America—including Mexico and Peru—with ministries that reflect their core values of justice, compassion, and human dignity.
Ministries That Uplift and Empower
Rooted in faith and grounded in service, the Sisters of IHM support others in a wide range of settings. Their ministries extend to classrooms, healthcare facilities, social service organizations, parishes, and environmental efforts. With a strong focus on women, children, and families, their work provides both spiritual and practical resources—from pastoral care and spiritual direction to education and social justice advocacy. Many sisters serve as retreat leaders, spiritual directors, and parish collaborators, helping others live more fully in faith and love.
A Legacy of Catholic Education
Education remains central to the IHM mission. For generations, the Sisters have taught in schools throughout North and South America, where they are known for academic excellence and student-centered formation. Today, they continue to offer educational and spiritual formation programs both in-person and online, adapting to the evolving needs of learners while maintaining their commitment to integrity, service, and grace.
