Stroudsburg Little Bethel Historical Association | Nonprofit preserving Black heritage & history in Stroudsburg

The Stroudsburg Little Bethel Historical Association is a nonprofit organization committed to restoring and preserving the historic Little Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Stroudsburg, PA. Built in 1868, the church served as a vital place of worship and community for minorities during a transformative period in American history. Today, the association’s mission is to rehabilitate the structure and honor its legacy by transforming it into a permanent historic site and museum.

Restoring a Landmark of Cultural Significance

Located on 3rd Street, the Little Bethel AME Church stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, faith & community in Monroe County and the Pocono Mountains. The building, though currently inactive as a place of worship, remains a deeply meaningful structure within the region’s African American history. The Stroudsburg Little Bethel Historical Association is working to stabilize, restore and preserve the church’s original architecture so it can once again welcome visitors—this time as an educational and cultural landmark.

Preserving Legacy Through Community Engagement

The association’s efforts aim to bring broader awareness to the important role that the AME Church played in local and regional history. Through restoration, planned exhibits and future programming, the organization hopes to create a space where residents and visitors alike can learn about the cultural and historical contributions of the African American community in Stroudsburg.

Stroudsburg Little Bethel Historical Association honors and preserves the legacy of the Little Bethel AME Church as a future historic site and museum in Stroudsburg.
