Mission Statement
Our mission is to improve the quality of life of the people of Lackawanna and Wayne counties by serving as a catalyst for community problem-solving and by conduction an efficient, encompassing volunteer fundraising effort to positively impact the community’s most compelling social problems.
United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike Counties is a nonprofit organization in Scranton that fights for the education, financial stability and health of every person in their community. This local branch of United Way was founded in 1921.
They advocate for quality education that leads to graduation, stable employment and steady, sufficient income to support a family’s financial stability while enjoying good physical and mental health, all with a safety net in times of crisis. They distribute funds to fill in gaps in educational opportunities, financial stability or health services.
The United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike Counties works every day to advance the common good in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Overall, the organization’s long-term goal is to create far-reaching and sustainable changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.
