We’re teaming up with community partners all over Northeastern Pennsylvania to bring you a closer look at what makes our amazing counties, cities, towns and villages so unique. Keep your eye on this space for regular contributions from local organizations, visitors’ bureaus, tourism boards, chambers and so much more.

July is Coming Up All Indie in Downtown Scranton!

In honor of Independents Month, a national movement created by the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA), Scranton Tomorrow is encouraging everyone to support the entrepreneurs in Downtown Scranton who contribute so much to our region. With plenty of opportunities to enjoy art, culture and entertainment in the business district, you can make a day (or night) of it and have fun while supporting local.

Let’s Go!

On July 3, the Scrantastic Spectacular & Fireworks Show on Courthouse Square is the perfect way to kick off Independence Month. An annual summer tradition in the Electric City, the event features a performance by Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic Brass and Percussion Members, fireworks, and more! Head downtown early and explore our unique shops, restaurants and cafés. Stay late, and check out our nightlife.

First Friday (July 7) is another great opportunity to patronize shops and eateries in the business district while enjoying fine art and music. This is also an ideal time to explore Scranton Tomorrow’s Mural Arts Program, featuring multiple public art displays throughout the downtown.

If you love theater, plan a date night or gather your friends for dinner at a downtown restaurant and a show at Shakes Space at the Marketplace at Steamtown. The Scranton Shakespeare Festival’s July lineup includes performances of Rent, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, the Musical, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, and classics by William Shakespeare such as Twelfth Night and Othello.

Architecture and history buffs are invited to step back in time with Small Group Summer Walking Tours hosted by the Lackawanna Historical Society. On July 7, the group will tour the commercial and “Red Light” District.

Looking for a perfect beach read? Stop by the Sidewalk Book Sale at Scranton Public Library, 500 Vine Street, on July 8, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Add to your collection all month (or all year) with titles from Library Express Bookstore in the Marketplace at Steamtown.

These are just a few of the ways to make the most of your visit to Downtown Scranton this month. Events and promotions continue with Christmas in July and we’re teaming up with local restaurateurs to serve up a special Restaurant Week.
