A250PA’s Semiquincentennial Scholarship Program (SQS)
America250PA has always put a special focus on the young people growing up in our communities today. In fifty years, they’ll be the ones guiding Pennsylvania during the Tricentennial. The work we do now will help them step into that future with confidence and pride.

As we count down to 2026, our commission is launching programs that help lay the foundation for that future. One of the most exciting for students and families is the Semiquincentennial Scholarship (SQS) program.

Why It Matters for NEPA
In Northeastern Pennsylvania, education is a family project. Parents, grandparents, teachers, and mentors all pitch in. SQS recognizes that community spirit. It helps close the gap between acceptance and attendance. It keeps talent in Pennsylvania and strengthens the workforce that powers our hospitals, schools, manufacturers, small businesses, and creative industries.
What Reviewers Value
The program lifts up students who demonstrate civic understanding and community commitment—young people ready to learn, serve, and lead in Pennsylvania. That could look like volunteering on a trail clean-up, starting a club at school, helping a neighbor, or stepping up in student government. Applicants will also reflect on what citizenship means today through a short essay question. Character, curiosity, and contribution matter!
The Spirit Behind SQS
These scholarships carry forward a long Pennsylvania tradition of expanding access to education. Guided by William Penn’s vision of universal learning, Pennsylvania emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries as home to prestigious universities and some of the nation’s first public high schools. Our commonwealth helped shape education in a growing democracy by investing in teacher training, vocational programs, and public colleges built to serve the common good.
2026 is a moment to look back with gratitude and step forward with confidence. Please share our Semiquincentennial Scholarship Program with a student who is ready for what comes next.
