Scranton’s Holiday Magic Begins with Deck the Downtown!

Whether you’re an early bird or a last-minute Lucy, downtown Scranton businesses are ready to help you shop, dine and celebrate the season with Deck the Downtown promotions and events!

A project of Scranton Tomorrow presented by PNC Bank, Deck the Downtown runs from Nov. 1 through Jan. 2, 2026. Harnessing the power of our inner elves, it’s a project we look forward to organizing every year with our friends in the business district. With more businesses participating than ever before, we’re thrilled to share a sneak peek into the magic that’s coming your way in the heart of the Electric City. Check it out!

Chillin’ with Santa! Brutally cold temperatures didn’t keep our Deck the Downtown crew from celebrating the season with Santa in downtown Scranton on Small Business Saturday in 2024. We just bundled up, and shopped on!

Fireworks burst in the night sky during the WEJL Radio Tower Lighting in Downtown Scranton.
“Three! Two! One! Happy Holidays!” With a flick of the switch, all of Scranton celebrated the start of the holiday season at the WEJL Tower Lighting in 2024. We can’t wait to see everyone at 149 Penn Avenue again this year on Thanksgiving Eve. While you’re downtown, check out opening night of our Holiday Window Showcase with dozens of displays throughout the business district.

Let’s go window shopping (and check out the lights!)

One of our favorite holiday traditions is driving around the city to see all the beautiful holiday displays on blustery, winter nights. Downtown Scranton is a great place to start because our Holiday Window Showcase features magical window displays in dozens of businesses. You can enjoy the displays by car, or on foot. Now in its 17th year, the showcase officially opens on Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 26), on the same day as the WEJL Tower Lighting Celebration at 149 Penn Ave.

The Holiday Window Showcase is a friendly competition among businesses in downtown Scranton. A secret panel of judges will award top honors to the most magical displays. Winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 5, at the Lackawanna County Christmas Tree Lighting on Courthouse Square. Be sure to join us as we cheer them on!

Let’s shop (local) ’til we drop all weekend

You may want to go to bed early on Thanksgiving night because the days to follow will be action-packed with Deck the Downtown promotions and events, including: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, ’Tis the Season Sunday and Cyber Monday. Whether you enjoy the traditional experience of shopping in-person, or you prefer to tackle your list online, downtown Scranton businesses offer the best of both worlds. Shop ’til you drop ― your way ― all weekend long!

Time for celebration! Last year’s winners of Scranton Tomorrow’s annual Holiday Window Showcase were honored at the Lackawanna County Christmas Tree Lighting on Courthouse Square. We’ll continue the tradition with a celebration of the winners at this year’s tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 5.

That’s a wrap

We’re trading in the stress of last-minute shopping for a night of fun at our Deck the Downtown Holiday Shoparound on Dec. 11 from 5 to 9 p.m. Participating businesses will offer extended hours and special sales to make it easy for shoppers to stop by after work. We’ll help you wrap up that to-do list and tie it in a festive bow, all while supporting local. Merry merry!
