Discover Fall Fun at Local Farms & Markets in the Endless Mountains

Summertime normally gets all the glory when it comes to farmers markets, but the fall season is just as bountiful. During the autumn harvest, our local farms are full of perfect pumpkins, crisp apples, sweet cider, and so much more.

Here in the country, you never know when you’ll stumble across a roadside produce stand or an adorable pumpkin patch. Agriculture is simply part of our heritage, and you’ll still find plenty of family-run farms and hometown markets throughout the Endless Mountains of NEPA. Hit the road and discover fall fun on the farm.

Go Pumpkin Picking at Brown Hill Farms

You might know Brown Hill Farms for their colorful tulips in the spring or their cheerful sunflower blooms in the summer. But by autumn, the fields are filled with pumpkins! Visit this fifth-generation farm near Tunkhannock to take a hayride into the pumpkin patch and pick your own.

Families can easily spend a whole afternoon enjoying the play areas, meeting the adorable farm animals, and snapping pictures at the stunning photo ops. See if you can find your way through the corn maze, and don’t leave without trying one of the homemade apple cider donuts.

Brown Hill Farms is open for the 2025 season every weekend from September 27 through October 26. Hours are Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 6 pm.

Visit the Whistle Pig Pumpkin Patch

Experience fun on the farm at Whistle Pig Pumpkin Patch in Noxen. This family-run farm grows pumpkins and gourds in all shapes and sizes. Take a tractor ride into the field to pick your own. They also have a corn maze; visit on Friday or Saturday evenings to try to find your way after dark!

Whistle Pig is also perfect for group outings, where you can enjoy a hayride, pumpkin picking, and a campfire in the picnic grove.

Whistle Pig Pumpkin Patch opens for the 2025 fall season on September 27 and will remain open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Hours are 5 pm to 9 pm on Fridays, 12 pm to 9 pm on Saturdays, and 12 pm to dark on Sundays.

Sip Fresh Apple Cider

Nothing beats a glass of apple cider on a cool fall day. Places like Grassy Ridge Farms in Noxen press their own cider with a blend of apples from their orchards. Stop by their farm stand to pick up a jug, as well as pumpkins, mums, winter squash, and other fall items.

To see cider-making in action, visit Salt Springs State Park near Montrose on October 11. They’ll show you how to press cider the old-fashioned way. You can buy cider to take home, as well as homemade soup and bread.

The Endless Mountains are also home to two craft cideries. Deep Roots Hard Cider in Sugar Run sources apples from NEPA and beyond to create award-winning ciders. From classic apple to fruit-infused flavors, there’s plenty to sample at their tasting room. Last Leg Cidery in Fleetville is another destination for handcrafted hard ciders. Relax at their taproom, located in a restored 1840s farmhouse, or kick back at the outdoor cider garden. Their delicious barbeque pairs perfectly with a cider flight or slushie.

Shop for All Things Fall at Creekside Gardens

This time of the year, Creekside Gardens in Tunkhannock embraces the magic of autumn with the annual Pumpkin Walk. Visitors can stroll through the grounds to see thousands of pumpkins on display. While you’re there, pick up a few pumpkins and plants for home or purchase an I SPY card to find the hidden clues scattered through the gardens.

The 2025 Pumpkin Walk is open from September 20 through the end of October. Hours are Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. There is no admission charge.

Visit on a Saturday, and you’ll also get to experience the Tunkhannock Farmers Market. Dozens of local farmers and vendors set up their booth along Village Lane, adjacent to the Creekside Gardens parking lot. Stock up on winter squash, fresh-picked apples, local honey, baked goods, and other fall goodies.

Celebrate Pumpkin Season in Laporte

Harvest season is in full swing during the Laporte Enhancement Committee’s Pumpkin Festivalon October 4. Located at Laporte Park, this family event features pumpkins for sale, pumpkin decorating, and the competitive Great Pumpkin Roll. There will also be children’s games hayrides, vendors, food trucks, and live music.
