A Bold New Chapter for Broadway, Big Shows & Feel-Good Nights at the Scranton Cultural Center

Well, I usually introduce my blog entries by the season; but here in NEPA, I realize that we have all four seasons in one day. So, let me start instead by saying I hope that everyone had a great holiday season, and I hope this New Year brings wealth, health and happiness to us all.

An Exciting Announcement for Arts & Entertainment

The big news about the merger of Broadway Theatre League and the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple has now been announced, and we are so happy to report that the new organization is going strong. We still will bring you the greatest national touring Broadway shows, but now we will also be able to bring you many other entertainment events as well.

The future of arts entertainment is so strong in our community, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

Spotlight on Broadway: Kinky Boots

So, on the topic of Broadway, let’s start by talking about Kinky Boots! The score for this beautiful musical was written by Cyndi Lauper, and the hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. With pedigree like this, you can expect this show to wow you.

I must admit that when I first saw this show on Broadway, I knew little about it. I knew it was based on a movie, and I expected to see some boots. Boy, was I blown away by the depth of the story and the spectacle of the singing and dancing. It was so much fun, and the show won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

A Feel-Good Story with Big Heart & Bigger Heels

Two lead performers in Kinky Boots share a playful moment on stage, featuring iconic red boots, in a promotional image for an upcoming Broadway Theatre League performance at the Scranton Cultural Center in Scranton, PA.

This national touring show arrives in Scranton on Valentine’s weekend, between stops in Detroit and Boston, with a high-energy and amazing cast. The plot follows Charlie Price as he struggles to save his family’s shoe factory.

Charlie finds inspiration in the most unexpected place—and with the most spectacular pair of sturdy stilettos! It is, at its heart, a story about business, innovation and teamwork, as he discovers that the best way to succeed is to embrace new ideas and different perspectives.

This show is the ultimate feel-good musical that proves the best way to fit in is to stand out. Whether you are planning a Galentine’s outing, a unique Valentine’s date night or a company celebration, join us for a celebration of love, acceptance and red patent leather.

I believe that it is better than a box of candy—and believe me, I LOVE candy!

I also invite you to our remaining 2026 shows.

From March 6–8, 2026, we are presenting the Broadway favorite and currently longest-running Broadway show, Chicago, featuring the dynamic duo of Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, straight from the Cook County Prison, singing and dancing their way into your hearts.

CLUE follows April 24–26, 2026, and it is a play based on the movie made from the board game we all played as children—when we wondered if the murderer truly was Colonel Mustard in the Study with the rope!

Finally, Meredith Willson’s The Music Man closes out our season June 12–14, 2026.

Tickets to all remaining shows are available now, with special pricing offers if you bring a group of 10 or more. Call (570) 342-7784 for details and tickets.
