Reeling in the Fun: Ice Fishing Derby Returns to Frances Slocum
After a two-year hiatus, the 28th Annual Ice Fishing Derby at Frances Slocum State Park made a triumphant return this past weekend. Hosted by the Nanticoke Conservation Club, the event drew eager anglers of all ages, ready to test their luck and skills on the ice.
As the first light of day stretched over the mountain, anglers got to work, setting up their gear and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow ice fishing enthusiasts. The friendly competition awarded cash prizes for the heaviest fish in several categories, including bass, perch, trout, crappie, bluegill, and pickerel.
In addition, a special prize was awarded for the heaviest fish caught by any angler 15 and under.
As the day wrapped up, we left Frances Slocum with cold hands, great stories, and an even greater appreciation for the ice fishing community.
