Briar Creek Lake Park | Pack a Picnic & Stroll in Berwick

Briar Creek Lake Park in Berwick is a 173-acre park and community space centered around a scenic 53-acre lake built in the 1970s for flood control. Today, it’s one of Columbia County’s most charming outdoor destinations, offering everything from fishing and boating to hiking, picnicking, and lakeside relaxation.

Families flock to the park for its peaceful atmosphere and variety of activities. The playground—complete with swings and slides—keeps little ones busy, while adults can enjoy fishing, paddling, or a leisurely stroll along the water’s edge. The park’s open green spaces are ideal for picnics, casual gatherings, or simply soaking in the scenery. And with a dog-friendly policy, furry friends are always welcome.

Pavilions & Picnic Areas

Briar Creek Lake Park makes outdoor dining easy with multiple pavilions available for public use. There is no rental fee, and no reservations are required—simply claim a spot on a first-come, first-served basis. Some pavilions even feature electricity and grills, making them perfect for a spontaneous cookout. Visitors are asked to be respectful and tidy up after themselves so everyone can enjoy the facilities.

A Piece of Local History

History buffs will appreciate the Fowlersville Covered Bridge, which was relocated to the park in 1986. Originally built in 1887 by Charles Krug at a cost of $397, the bridge was one of the last covered bridges constructed in Columbia County. Its namesake, the Fowler family, settled in the area after the Revolutionary War, leaving a lasting connection to the region’s early days.

Briar Creek Lake Park in Berwick offers a perfect mix of recreation, history, and natural beauty—an inviting spot to fish, picnic, play, or simply relax by the water.
