Christy Mathewson Park | Community recreation & baseball legacy in Factoryville

Christy Mathewson Park in Factoryville, PA is a community park offering recreation, green space and local history. The park includes a baseball field, basketball courts and a picnic pavilion. A walking trail loops through the grounds, providing an easy route for casual strolls. Along the trail, small “play pockets” feature playground equipment for children.

The park honors Factoryville native Christy Mathewson, born in 1880. He became a legendary pitcher for the New York Giants. Mathewson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. His legacy is reflected in the park’s baseball field, which remains a hub of springtime activity.

Recent improvements enhanced the park’s amenities and accessibility. Updates include new spectator bleachers, resurfaced basketball courts and added walking paths. A pickleball court was also introduced. These upgrades were supported by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Parking is available behind the Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center. Visitors access the park by crossing a pedestrian covered bridge over the South Branch of Tunkhannock Creek. The park is also available for rentals.
