Jim Thorpe was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation and one of the most versatile athletes the world has ever known. He attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania, where he excelled in football under legendary coach Pop Warner. Thorpe earned All-American honors and demonstrated rare ability across nearly every sport offered. His athletic range included football, baseball, basketball, track and field, lacrosse and more.
Olympic & Professional Achievements
At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, Jim Thorpe won gold medals in both the pentathlon and decathlon. He became the first Native American to win Olympic gold for the United States. Thorpe later competed professionally in football, baseball and basketball. In 1920, he was named the first president of the American Professional Football League, which later became the NFL. He is enshrined in multiple halls of fame, including professional football, college football, U.S. Olympic and national track and field.
