A Scenic and Serene Spot

From fishing in the lake to hiking through the forest trails, you’ll be one with nature at Mauch Chunk Lake Park in Jim Thorpe. This public park offers outdoor activities year-round.

The 345-acre lake is the main hub of activity. It’s an excellent spot for fishing and boating. You can expect to reel in bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, perch, pickerel, and catfish.

A sand beach and swimming area are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. You can even set sail with their boat rentals like canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, paddleboards, and rowboats. The boat rentals are popular, so reservations are recommended.

Pack a picnic for a day trip or spend the night in the park’s campsite. They have 135 spots, including cozy cottages. The tent sites on the lakeshore have the best sunrise views over the water. Modern restrooms and shower facilities are available.

Plan your next hiking or biking adventure. Mauch Chunk Lake Park offers easy access to the Switchback Railroad Trail, which leads into downtown Jim Thorpe. Hikers enjoy the scenic Shoreline Trail, while the Fireline Trail offers a fun challenge. The Orchard Trail and Board Bottom Trail are peaceful paths below the dam.

The Carbon County Environmental Center is connected to the park. They offer additional trails, wildlife observation spots, and children’s programs.
