Stroud Mansion Museum & Library in Stroudsburg invites visitors to explore Monroe County’s rich past through historic architecture, curated exhibits and unique research collections. Operated by the Monroe County Historical Association, this 1795 Georgian-style mansion remains one of most significant historic structures in the Pocono Mountains region. Guests tour restored rooms and learn about life from the area’s earliest Native American inhabitants through more recent chapters of county history. Each space highlights people, traditions and stories that shaped the community.

Historic Exhibits & Mansion Highlights

The museum features four floors of displays that change throughout the year. Permanent exhibits include a Colonial-era cellar kitchen, a Victorian parlor and rooms filled with tools, textiles, toys and local artifacts. Portraits of notable regional figures appear throughout the mansion. Visitors enjoy exploring authentic rooms that reveal how families lived, worked and celebrated across generations. The surrounding grounds include additional historic sites, including the Bell Schoolhouse and the Driebe Freight Station.

Research Library & Educational Resources

The Elizabeth D. Walters Library provides one of the area’s most valuable research collections. Guests access family files, census records, cemetery listings, church documents, maps and historic newspapers. These resources support genealogical research and local history studies for casual visitors and dedicated researchers. Staff maintain well-organized archives that make it easy to explore the past and uncover long-forgotten stories.
