Experience the Scenic Beauty of Ricketts Glen State Park

Ricketts Glen State Park is one of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most iconic outdoor destinations. Spanning Luzerne, Sullivan, and Columbia Counties, the park is home to more than 13,000 acres of pristine forest, scenic trails, and cascading waterfalls—including the jaw-dropping Ganoga Falls. At 94 feet tall, Ganoga Falls is the highest of the 20+ waterfalls found along the Falls Trail, a must-visit for any nature lover. The park is open year-round and offers breathtaking scenery in every season. Add this can’t miss destination to your NEPA Bucket List.

Waterfalls, Trails, and Wildlife

The Falls Trail is the centerpiece of Ricketts Glen, guiding hikers through the Glens Natural Area, a National Natural Landmark. The trail is challenging, with rocky paths and steep inclines, but the reward is well worth the effort. Hikers can enjoy nearly two dozen waterfalls, crystal-clear streams, and lush greenery. For even more scenic views, the Grand View Trail climbs to the summit of Red Rock Mountain, offering sweeping panoramas, especially vibrant during peak fall foliage. The Highland Trail features unique geological formations like the Midway Crevasse and winds through a forest of towering trees and moss-covered boulders.

Wildlife is abundant throughout Ricketts Glen State Park, and it’s been designated an Important Bird Area with over 75 migratory bird species. From March through November, the park hosts seasonal programs including guided hikes, nature talks, and family-friendly educational events.

Relax and Stay at Ricketts Glen State Park

After a hike, unwind at Lake Jean, a serene spot with a sandy beach for swimming, two boat launches, and rentals for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats. Enjoy lunch at a lakeside picnic table or grab a snack from the seasonal concession stand. For those looking to extend their visit, Ricketts Glen offers campsites for tents and trailers, as well as rustic cabins available for reservation—perfect for a weekend immersed in nature.
