Swatara State Park | Tranquil Trails and Kayaking in Pine Grove

Swatara State Park in Pine Grove spans 3,520 acres and offers a quiet retreat filled with outdoor opportunities in Schuylkill County. As one of NEPA’s 18 state parks, it’s a serene destination for kayaking, hiking, fishing and enjoying winter state park fun. With picturesque views of Swatara Creek and a peaceful atmosphere, this park is perfect for a relaxing day outside.

The park features its own network of trails, including a stretch of the famous Appalachian Trail. A unique pedestrian bridge provides hikers with beautiful views of the surrounding forest and creek. For those interested in history, Swatara State Park also houses a log cabin built in 1939 using on-site materials, preserved as a piece of local heritage.

Swatara Creek is a favorite for kayaking and canoeing, with gentle currents and wooded scenery. Anglers will find fishing opportunities in both the creek and Irving’s Pond, a peaceful spot tucked away in the park. Hunting is permitted in most of the area during designated seasons, offering diverse outdoor recreation throughout the year.
