Tank Hollow Trail & Overlook in Jim Thorpe, PA is a scenic 3.3-mile out-and-back hike leading to sweeping views above the Lehigh River. Located on PA State Game Lands #141, this popular trail offers panoramic scenery of the Lehigh River Valley and the dramatic horseshoe bend below. It’s a favorite destination for hiking, mountain biking and birdwatching in Carbon County.
The trailhead is accessible from Behrens Road, with parking availability depending on the hunting season. When access gates are open, visitors can park close to the trailhead. When closed, hikers must begin at the Behrens Road lot, adding extra distance to the trip. Because the trail is located on State Game Lands, wearing blaze orange during hunting seasons is strongly recommended.
The path is relatively flat and well-worn, stretching about 0.6 miles through open woods before passing through a laurel thicket near the overlook. At the rocky outcrop, hikers are rewarded with 360-degree views of the Lehigh River and Lehigh Gorge State Park. Short side paths provide additional vantage points of the river’s sweeping curve.
