In over 100 years, Geisinger has evolved from a small, community hospital to a nationally-recognized leader and innovator in community-based nonprofit healthcare. The health system serves 1.2 million people in both rural and urban communities across Pennsylvania.
Rooted in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania
In 1915, philanthropist Abigail Geisinger, aimed to improve healthcare in her native, rural town of Danville. From its inception, her idea of a small, forward-thinking hospital, focused on the total health of the community, has gained unstoppable momentum. Today, Geisinger serves all of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania with 10 hospital campuses and over 130 primary care and specialty clinics. The health system employs 1,700 physicians and over 25,000 health professionals, caregivers, educators, researchers, technicians and support staff.
Investment in the Future of Healthcare
Geisinger is also dedicated to its long-standing practice of educating and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. The Geisinger College of Health Sciences is home to the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, the Master of Biomedical Sciences Program and the Associates of Science in Nursing Program. Since its founding in 2017, the college has become a regional source of pride as well as a hub for innovation, research and state-of-the-art learning.
